- Providing help and HOPE to the families at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta who are experiencing life threatening cardiac illnesses.
The angel in the top two photos lost her fight with a congenital heart defect in 1979. But she left my baby, in the bottom photos, 15 years later a fighting chance.
Jeremiah 17:14 New International Version (NIV)
14 Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed;
save me and I will be saved,
for you are the one I praise.
According to the March of Dimes, congenital heart defects are the #1 birth defect. In the US alone, over 25,000 babies are born each year with a congenital heart defect (CHD). That translates to 1 out of every 115-150 births. Some heart defects are mild while others are more severe requiring multiple surgeries, a lifetime of medications and for some people; their only hope is a heart transplant. My baby sister lost her fight at Children's in 1979 to a CHD. But 15 years later, with the knowledge they gleaned from her case, she left us a legacy and gave our Lexie, and others like her, a fighting chance! Lexie was born with Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome. The prognosis was for 3 open heart surgeries before she was 3. She's only had the first one that was preparation for the 2 bigger ones that would leave her without a right ventricle. Children's Healthcare has been amazing and we want to give back the same Hope that they gave us to other families. God is definitely still in the business of doing Miracles!
Help us pay it forward and help other families at Children's and Sibley Heart Center!
